First-class Introduce:

Xiao Jinguang was awarded the rank of Senior Admiral in 1955 and got a first-class "Bayi" medal, an "Independence and Freedom" medal and a "Liberation" medal, which has  witnesseed the glorious military career of Senior Admiral Xiao Jinguang.

Xiao Jinguang, the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries and military strategists of China, participated in the Northern Expedition and the Long March, served as the Commander of the Rear Corps of Eighth Route Army in the War of Resistance against Japan, and concurrently served as the Deputy Commander of the Fourth Field Army and the Commander and political commissar of the Twelfth Corps of the Chinese PLA in the Liberation War. He was appointed as the Commander of the Chinese PLA Navy in Jan. 1950 as one of the major founders and awarded the rank of Senior Admiral in 1955. He made a great contribution to the navy construction in his thirty years served as the Commander. Besides, he was one of the members of the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th CPC Central Committee, the vice chairman of the 5th NPC Standing Committee, and one of the standing members of the 12th CPC Central Advisory Committee. On Mar. 29, 1989, Xiao Jinguang passed away at the age of 86. 

This is the first-class "Liberation" medal of Senior Admiral Xiao Jinguang, and it is a national Level-I cultural relic. 

A "Liberation" medal is a blunt five-pointed star in shape, with one vertical red bar on the yellow background representing the level. It is engraved with red star and Tiananmen Square in the center, and molded with "First-class Liberation Medal of PRC, 1955, Beijing" and other words on the back.

The "Liberation" medals for the meritorious persons (including the direct leadership of uprising nationalist forces) of the Chinese PLA in the Second Civil War (“Liberation War”) were issued in 1955 according to the Rules of the People's Republic of China on Granting Medals to Meritorious Persons of the Chinese PLA in the Chinese People's Revolutionary War. "Liberation" medals have three classes, i.e., first-class "Liberation" medals, second-class "Liberation" medals and third-class "Liberation" medals. First-class "Liberation" medals are awarded to the cadres of above army level and equivalent at that time.

This is the first-class "Independence and Freedom" medal of Senior Admiral Xiao Jinguang, and it is a national Level-I cultural relic.

The "Independence and Freedom" medals for the meritorious persons of the Chinese PLA in the War of Resistance against Japan (Jul. 7, 1937 to Sep. 2, 1945) were issued on Feb. 12, 1955 according to the resolutions and rules passed by the Seventh Session of the 1st NPC Standing Committee as ordered by Chairman Mao. 

An "Independence and Freedom" medal is an eight-pointed star in shape and engraved with a pattern of Yan'an Baota Mountain in the middle, indicating that Yan'an is the revolutionary base of CCP in the War of Resistance against Japan. 

This is the first-class "Bayi" medal of Senior Admiral Xiao Jinguang, and it is a national Level-I cultural relic. "Bayi" medals for the meritorious persons of the Chinese PLA in the Agrarian Revolutionary War (Aug. 1, 1927 to Jul. 6, 1937) were issued by the Chairman in 1955 according to the resolutions of the NPC Standing Committee of the People's Republic of China.

"Bayi" medals have three classes, i.e., first-class "Bayi" medals, second--class "Bayi" medals and third-class "Bayi" medals. Every "Bayi" medal is a metal product in gold or in silver and white alternately, is a blunt five-pointed star in shape and engraved with army emblem in the middle. Its classes are based on the size and gold content.

First-class "Bayi" medals are awarded to the officers of above division level at that time.
