The Frigate "Yingtan", a national Level-I cultural relic, is the only one Type 053K ship-to-air missile frigate independently developed by China. It was launched in 1971, incorporated into the Navy Order of Battle in Dec. 1974, and named "Yingtan" by the Central Military Commission on Aug. 1, 1986. Its hull No. is 531, with a full-load displacement of 1,755 tons, a maximum speed of 30 knots and an endurance of 2,000nm. It is equipped with an automated weapon system consisting of HQ-61 ship-to-air missile system, a twin-linked 100mm automatic gun system, a twin-linked 37mm automatic gun system and a Type 1200 anti-submarine weapon system.

As a new test frigate of the Chinese navy, "Yingtan" had successfully fulfilled the automation and modularization tests of the power system, ship-to-air missile system, naval gun system and anti-submarine system during the 20-year service life, making the greatest contribution to the modernization of naval equipment. In addition, it also successfully fulfilled all combat readiness tasks. On Mar. 14, 1988, “Yingtan” jointed the self-defense counterattack in the Johnson Reef waters of the Nansha Islands. Cooperating with the brother warships, it shot down one invaded Vietnamese warship and destroyed two warships. It was collectively rewarded as Third-class Merit Citation in this fight.

During the service life, "Yingtan" was inspected by such CPC, state and military leaders as Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Yang Shangkun, Liu Huaqing and Zhang Aiping. Zhang Aiping inscribed "Overawing Sea and Air Power" during inspection. "Yingtan" was decommissioned in 1994 and then exhibited in the Museum.
